Charity Day Write Up
This summer, along with 7 other members of the Sixth Form, I am lucky enough to be travelling out to South Africa, where we will all be volunteering and teaching in the rural Schitsdrift Primary School.
Located near the battle field of Spion Kop, this primary school has been the ‘summer home’ to 8 Arden Sixth Formers for the last 3 years, and will hopefully remain to be so in the future. Every year, whilst out there, the group has left a Legacy: a lasting investment in the school to benefit the education and lives of the Zulu children. Previous legacies include introducing a new library into the school, supplying the school with necessary equipment, and providing climbing frames and trampolines.
On the 34th March, myself and the other members of the team ran a charity day in order to support this legacy. Arden charity days have evolved through the years, and we wanted to replicate earlier charity days- ones filled with excitement; rushing out of lessons to get to the front of the chocolate line, and eating lunch at a rate Usain Bolt would be proud of, in order to see our favourite teachers being sponged.
Throughout the day we ran many activities, such as Sponge the Teacher, where Mr Richards, and Mr Fletcher, as particular student favourites, spent the majority of lunch getting soaked to the bone. Dylan ran a Penalty shoot-out, and saw some fabulous goals, and Coel had a Basketball shoot-out, where he saw Arden’s next Michael Jordan win over and over. There was an inflatable assault course open all day in PE lessons, and an endless amount of chocolate, pop and samosa’s on sale.
The day was a huge success making an incredible £4023.41, and we would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
