Engineering Assembly
On Friday 23 June it was International Women in Engineering Day. This day focuses attention on the amazing careers in engineering and technical roles for girls, and allows the world to celebrate the achievements of outstanding women engineers.
Arden was fortunate to host two female apprentices, currently working at Jaguar Landrover. Lucy and Lauren spoke to all the year 9 and 10 girls about their career and experiences so far. It was particularly interesting to hear about their motivation for joining the engineering profession. In-fact it was an assembly, much like the one she delivered, that first encouraged Lucy to consider the fact that Engineering isn’t just for men. A lot of the year 9 and 10 girls remained at the end to pick up information, they were very taken with the idea that JLR will pay for their degree course as well as paying them a salary!
We hope to invite Lucy and Lauren back into school to work with students, of any gender, that have expressed an interest in pursuing an apprenticeship as a route into a career in engineering. JLR are also keen to support Arden at post-16 and parent events. Look out for them soon, offering more information about the careers on offer and the benefits of an apprenticeship as opposed to full time study at university.
