Flags at half mast
Arden made the decision to fly our school flags at half -mast today in tribute to MP Jo Cox who was murdered yesterday.
Her death has shocked everyone. It is a time for us all to reflect on many of the British values we uphold within every aspect of life at Arden and which have been brought to the fore by this incident. Staff have taken the opportunity to discuss this tragic event in an age appropriate manner throughout lessons. Inspiration can be drawn from the many comments made by those associated with the late MP who died doing her public duty at the heart of our democracy, listening to and representing the people she was elected to serve. Her school commented on how proud they were of her contribution to local and national democracy and of her "determined, caring campaigning for the world's disadvantaged. Her neighbour added, ‘she believed in love, friendship and values that we all so much need at this time’
The most poignant of comments came from her husband, Brendan who said ‘Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it every day of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people. She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her."
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Jo Cox at this very sad time.
