Sixth Former is a 'Young Hero'
After her GCSEs, Esther Lau-Mackaay now an Arden Sixth Former walked 160 kilometres (equivalent to four marathons) over four consecutive days. The weather throughout the feat was hot but the last day saw temperatures reach 39 degrees...Esther was walking on tarmac which made it feel even hotter!
She did this to raise funds for ANTI SLAVERY INTERNATIONAL, a charity that is 175 years old this year. Slavery still exists, even on our doorstep in Birmingham.
Esther had a target of £1,600 (£10 for every kilometre walked) but we are delighted to announce that she has now exceeded that and reached 111% of the target (https://www.justgiving.com/anti-slavery). We believe this is as a result of Esther having won the Knowle & Dorridge Round Table's YOUNG HERO AWARD, which was announced at their annual Dorridge Day event held at Dorridge Park. (http://www.kandd.org.uk/) She received a cheque for £300 for Anti-Slavery International with an additional amount to spend on herself.
Arden is privileged to have such a superb ambassador for the School and Sixth Form and we would like to congratulate her on her fantastic achievement.
