STEM visit
One hundred students from Year 9 attended The Big Bang Fair at the NEC on Wednesday 11 March. Students had a great day exploring Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths through hands on activities run by various universities and companies. STEM covers so much that there were all sorts of things to learn about that included: food science, the human body, computer coding/programming, energy, engineering, robotics, 3D printing, technology in fashion and the media, virtual reality, heavy metal marine biology and so much more.
This visit is just one of many STEM events offered to Arden students this year. STEM is really important for promoting and helping students understand the possibilities for future training and careers in these valuable areas. For example so far Year 9 this school year have taken part in Solihull's Your Green Future event (March 2015), had a SetPoint STEM Biomass challenge day (Dec 2014), a day of shows and workshops with Tomorrow's Engineers and STEM ambassadors (November 2014) and there are more events coming up for Year 7 and 8 this term and next.
Year 7 and 8 pupils were recently involved in a special presentation by representatives of BAE - they particularly enjoyed the flames dancing to music!
