Key Stage 5 Music Technology
Music and Music Technology are the options available for those students who wish to study music at Arden Sixth Form. Both of these subjects follow the Edexcel syllabus.
AS Music Technology
Outline
Students are required to learn a variety of skills such as MIDI sequencing, multi-track recording and arranging. Students will also study the development of popular music over the past century.
Unit 1: Music Technology Portfolio (70%)
The following tasks are completed under controlled conditions and are submitted as coursework.
- Task 1A: Sequenced Realised Performance
- Task 1B: Multi-track Recording
- Task 1C: Creative Sequenced Arrangement
Unit 2: Listening and Analysing (30%)
Assessed by an examination lasting 1 hour 45 minutes. Students study the development of popular music from 1910 to the present day. Each year there are two special focus styles selected for more in-depth study.
A2 Music Technology
Outline
Students build on the skills introduced at AS level but at A2 students now compose.
Unit 3: Music Technology Portfolio 2 (60%)
The following tasks are completed under controlled conditions and are submitted as coursework.
- Task 3A : Sequenced Integrated Performance
- Task 3B : Multi-track Recording
- Task 3C : Composing using Music Technology
Unit 4
This unit is assessed by a two hour examination. Students will be set a number of different tasks including importing files into music production software, editing music and write commentaries on technological processes.
