Careers events
November has been a very busy month for the careers team who have hosted and organised a number of events to help the students find out about the various career opportunities available to them.
First we hosted 26 employers and training providers for a marketplace event which was aimed at giving Year 11 and Sixth Form students the chance to find out about apprenticeship opportunities. With more and more students choosing to head straight into the world of work after GCSEs or A-Levels, this was a fantastic and informative event. Students took away a lot of information to think about. It was also wonderful to see a number of ex-students representing their companies and speaking so highly of their experiences.
Following on from this we hosted our annual Beyond-16 exhibition which is organised by the local Rotary club. We are very grateful to them for giving up their time to keep supporting this event. Aimed at Year 9 and Year 11, this event gives students the opportunity to find out about a number of different careers, from Police and Armed forces to engineering and accountancy. A few parents commented that they felt Year 9 was too young for such an event but with options just around the corner and work experience to think about, this is the perfect time for students to start thinking about life after school.
Our final event was a visit to the Skills Show at the NEC which proved valuable for many of our Year 10 and 11 students and enabled them to find out about careers that our internal events could not represent.
Following on from these events if any students would like to find out more or discuss their career aspirations they should contact Mrs Collett or Mr Brady, our Careers Advisor.
