Leadership Team visit Solihull's Mayor
On Friday 9 September, Arden’s Leadership Team went on a combined trip with Park Hall Academy, to the Council House in Solihull in order to meet the Mayor – Councillor Mike Robinson. We started off the visit in the Mayor’s private office where we got an exclusive insight into the variety of jobs that are required when you are mayor. We were shown some of the various gifts that have been given over time, including many from Chinese ambassadors, as well as some of the contributions that past mayors have gifted after completing their service. We were also shown the Mayor’s celebration coat and the medals from other boroughs before they merged into one council.
Following this, we went into the debate room for a question and answer session with the Mayor. Councillor Mike Robinson was very inspiring with his answers and advice as well as enlightening us with many facts about what it is to be mayor eg you have to be completely politically unbiased for the entire year you are in service in order to maintain a fair vote and discussion.
Overall, I think we would all say it was a fascinating experience and we learnt many things we previously hadn’t know. It was also a pleasure to meet the leadership and senior team from Park Hall and we look forward to working with them in the future.
